The Barrow-Downs Middle-Earth Name Generator

Jan 29, 2008 15:19

Now for some unabashed nerdiness. So I stumbled across this through a series of links that I could never hope to recreate--it's a name generator which essentially randomly matches up your name to vaguely Tolkein-esque sounding names while perpetuating the fiction that it is in fact translating your name into Elvish, Dwarvish, etc. At any rate, because I am wildly amused. I have blotted out my real name because I can be paranoid like that.

According to the Red Book of Westmarch,
In Middle-earth, A---- G---- was a

Friendless Huorn
(according to wikipedia, apparently, a 'Huorn' is a more primitive and hence more tree-ish Ent, which I sort of like)

** DISCLAIMER ** : These name generators produce random results and are not true translations of the words you type in. They are meant for entertainment purposes only. -- Considering how many languages are spoken by our visitors and how many names there are in the world, creating a program that can translate your real name would be an immense task and, in the end, would likely not be accurate since all of Tolkien's languages are incomplete. Additionally, most people have their names because their parents liked the sound of it or they had a relative with a similar name, not because of any ancient meaning. Still, we hope you enjoy our Name Generators and have fun with them!
