by Neil Gaiman
I wanted to enjoy this book, and was for the first 250 pages or so. Eventually, I was really only reading it because I had nothing else to read.
The book is loaded with interesting ideas. There are some incredibly well-written sequences that will look incredible in the inevitable film version. The dialogue is hilarious and sublime. The descriptions of various scams and grifts are convincing and impressive. But the spaces between the things I liked are many and too long.
In the end, I just found the whole book to be overblown and tedious.
