For years now one of my favorite things about living in Boston has been having the best fireworks show in the nation. This year I discovered that the fireworks are even more impressive if you watch them from the Charles river instead of from the banks.
However, knowing my friends, we can't just rent a boat or anything simple like that. Olin college has a tradition called Project Best Idea Ever where ~100 people get small inflatable rafts and row down the Charles until stopped by the coast guard and then tie each other together and eat hot dogs cooked on a grill raft. This year ~20 people from Artisans' Asylum, including myself, built 5 rubber duck themed rafts and joined the party. Commander Quack, The Flying Duckman, Scrubber Ducky, Roboduck, and Duckubus made quite the show.
I was on Roboduck. Our scanning LED visor was a hit, as was the apple pie I brought and distributed to random people in rafts; people's reactions were a lot of fun. Rowing a rectangular raft of 1x4 and housing insulation upstream was less so. Coming back the next day to deconstruct the now dilapidated ducks even less so. However, sitting around at dinner time brainstorming crazy ideas for next year made up for it.
