monday was a horrible day for doing arboretum work. We're supposed to
find all the plants in a certain quadrant, measure them, and input the
data in this handheld computer thing. In order to do this, we rely on a
clipboard with a long list of plants and numbers, and these metal tags
on the plants themselves. the problem is, once you've gone through a
list of, say, 1000 plants and you only have, say, 80 left...the plants
get darn hard to find. The majority of my three and a half hour work
session was spent wandering around our quadrant, searching in vain for
plants i wouldnt find, avoiding the gigantic paper wasp nest that stung
my coworker last wednesday, and watching praying mantises eat
bumblebees. for instance:
