So I lost another friend yesterday. To liver failure of all things. I'm surprised, and I'm not surprised. Jay was an alcoholic. Has been for awhile. We're talking about a guy who could drink a bottle of vodka by himself in one night. His wife, my friend, Lisa, is pretty much numb but she's handling it a hell of a lot better than I would if it were me. I figured he'd have liver issues at some point, but I didn't think it would be THIS soon.
Last week he had some kind of a seizure and was coughing up blood. Lisa wanted to take him to the hospital but he didn't want to go, so she called his mother and she reamed him out and told him to go, so he did. Which, at the time, saved his life. Then they put him in a medically induced coma but his other organs were failing as well so he was just on life support. There was no way back at that point and he passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon.
Jay was a good guy and he was also quite smart. We even shared a birthday, even tho he was 3 years older than I am. He was certainly fun to be around and he had a good sense of humor. He had to, in order to put up with Lisa and I singing karaoke into the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes he even cooked for us :)
I don't know what Lisa's going to do now. They have a 14 year old son and he's a good kid. She recently got a decent sum of money from a settlement due to a car accident last year. I hope she saves some of it but I have a feeling she's gonna blow it. She mentioned something about taking a trip to clear her head, which I think is a good idea. After that tho, I don't know. All I can do is be there for her.
Anyway, here's a pic of Lisa and Jay years ago. I'm serenading them with Bon Jovi's song "Diamond Ring." LOL
