Technorati; my new laptop!

(Oh noes!  It's been 26 days since my last post.  Pharyngula promises to delete blogs that don't post in a month.)

What's the deal with Technorati?  My blog is now ranked 1,446,383 with authority 3 (about the same as rabitguy), while giza is ranked 142,439 with authority 33.  Pharyngula's actual blog is ranked 131 with authority 301, but Technorati instead ( Read more... )

I didn't look at how they define it.  Presumably they are trying to get away from those 6- and 7-digit rank numbers for us low-authority folks.

I've been meaning to get a new laptop (well, a 'new' used one, anyhow) for a while, but the poor battery performance that seems to invariably come with the designation is frustrating. Why doesn't some company get together and couple a really low-power system, maybe something based around an AMD Geode, with modern battery technology? I don't need speed, just long runtime and SSH!

Other than your Debian woes, do you find the T23 to be a reasonably solid machine?

It's very light, less than 6 lbs.  If I pick it up by one corner, the thing flexes more than my 600E did.  But I think it's a lot more solid than the crappy Walmart laptop my daughter got a few years ago.  That thing fell to pieces!

I hear OLPC is down to $175 per unit?  I paid $265 to get a T23 without an operating system.

I got lucky.  My battery has 2 hours of runtime left, of the original-spec 3½ hours.  Also, on the T23 you can swap out the DVD drive and replace it with a second battery.  On my 600E the main battery held only 45 minutes, so I got a battery shaped like a CDROM-drive on Ebay-three hours!  How much off-juice time does a college kid's machine need these days?

A month is nothing... I went over a year without updating my journal ;-)

Btw, are the emails in your user profile valid? I wanted to send you something private and want to make sure you'll get it.

Yes, the second one forwards to the first.
