Its Been...

god only knows how long since ive posted in here. however the events of thursday are enough to bring it up.

me and jamie got engaged a ways back and decided to go make it official on thursday when the ban was expected to be lifted with a ruling between 9-12. we both took the day off and got down to norwalk at 8am. we sat and sat and sat watching really happy hetero couples go in to get married. while we were anxious for the ban to be lifted we sat there patiently and ready for our turn. several news outlets spoke with us, so we were distracted at least for a while.

we heard from one of the cameramen at about 10am that according to their newsroom the ruling was going to be released at noon. so we sat some more. at 12:30 the ruling was released. we were on my iphone so we heard the ruling first. i grabbed jamies and and yelled to everyone the ban was off and we all ran happily into the marriage license line with the media running right behind us.

a spokeshole came over from the norwalk office to say (and i quote): " do you all know something we dont?" i explained that the ban had been lifted and that we were waiting in line to get our marriage license printout and pay our money to get married on the spot. she explaiend that she hadnt heard anything as of yet so as a result she needed to go confirm the information and have us step out of line while she did so. she said that if we would be patient that she would be back in a few minutes to let us know what she found out. we reluctantly agreed
and went back to the waiting area.

while sitting there the rest of the ruling came down with the awful news that all marriages would be held off until 8/18 to give the opposition enough time to petition both the appeals court as well as the us supreme court to try and stay marriages while the appeals process took place. at that point we all just sat around staring at each other trying to comprehend how this wonderful day turned into a bittersweet moment.

the same media outlets came back to interview us again about our feelings and i made it well known that in this terrible CA economy that the state couldnt afford not to take my $110 and the $110 of all the other couples waiting across the state. jamie started crying on my shoulder and the really young exuberant guy from the press telegram started taking photos of us. as im trying to console jamie and explain that what had happened would only delay our intentions for a few days the more seasoned (and very vocal supporter of us) softly told him that he didnt want the photos he was taking and that he needed to respect our privacy in this moment. i will always love that stranger for that moment of kindness.

so here i sit today. we are now waiting on 8/18 at 5pm for the ban to be lifted. we have both taken the day off again and are planning a trek down to west hollywood where they are promising extended hours for all. ive put a couple links below of our "coverage"

this waiting process that has been going on now for weeks has taken all the romance out of what we are trying to do. instead of having friends and family around us we are having to sit around at offices and wait for bans to be lifted and for judges to make rulings on something that should be about love.

we have a reception date already in place on 11/5/11 at 5pm. this gives us enough time to get settled into things and make sure that we can pay for everything so that friends and family can just enjoy.

everyone cross their fingers that this wednesday will be it!
