grrrr. tivo

As my beloved cosmicdolphin notes here, we've lost our TiVO again.  Same problem as before...corrupted TiVO software, despite what the damn help desk people told us last time ("line noise").

It's the damn 7.1b upgrade.  It keeps taking out our system.  Pity that I don't know of a way to tell them that I don't want the damn thing.  GRRRRRRRRRR.

Well, we either take it back to get it repaired again (and therefore be out of service for awhile), or we try the network adapter route (along judging by the community forums, that route is no picnic either.)  For those of you who use the wireless adapters, are you also running WEP encryption on your networks?  Was it a bear to get your TiVO configged properly?

(and again, if anyone has a spare USB wireless adapter around...perferably one of the ones that looks like a USB key drive, I'd love to borrow it.)

All told, I preferred the other methods by which my TiVOs have been destroyed in the past (dead hard drives, and lightning strikes.)  This death due to unpredictable software upgrade really does make me extra aware that I can't trust their service at all.

Hrm.  Wonder how the FreeVO is coming along....
