Olympic Nausea

I'm doing what might be called "boycotting" the Olympics. I'm not watching it, and letting people know why. I've very little idea about who's leading, though I'm sure it will remind us of the USA-USSR showdowns of old, only with a different communist nation of similar moral decrepitude. I do know Finland got a gold medal. Ain't that cute?

Bleh, just bleh. First, the one child policy is still very much in place, it depends on your region how harsh they are or not. If you're not ethnically Han? Good luck, several regions still wield forced abortions with regularity. They've only flexed on it a little with the recent earthquake and only in those regions.

Nor have they really relaxed on controls, voicing dissent on their government will still get you jail time often with no trial at all, and if you do get one it's mostly a sham. The US still has thousands of people from the last 8 years alone who fled because they were threatened with exactly this. This does not include those who failed to find religious freedoms.

Examples of these denied rights? Well, why don't you ask the Falun Gong? To this very date if you say that you are one you will be arrested on the spot if one of the paramilitary, or cops is nearbye. Or if really unlucky, someone who will at least turn you in. Their government still denies the right to any written materials about them, and to websites about them. Even the so called promise to allow western reporters access to whatever website they wish are still not able to do it.

Uplifting out of poverty? Pheh, in truth the divide of rich and poor in China has actually grown. Not to mention they still have factories that open for a month or two, then close down and pay no one nothing. Many get paid less than a dollar or even a wage they are supposed to get there. As well as worker safety controls are regularly ignore or the massive corruption the inspections never happen. Lets not even mention the riots of the massive numbers of rural poor who can't survive in their hometowns so they roam between the various industrial cities, homeless, disrespected especially if they're not Han, and have frequent bouts of violence of them.

What China represents is the US willingness to fund a massive violent tyranny that has turned around and funded and supported others such as Sudan and others at he cost of our own countries economy just so we can save a buck.
