Ok, here's a good one: They are putting ads on eggs.
Yep, you read that right. A company, paid by CBS, will be laser inscribing adds on eggs. Want to see the fall lineup? It will be plugged on breakfast.
Now, I'm pro advertising. I like ads. But the reason for that is that adds should serve two purposes: to promote the business of course, but also to make something cheaper or better for me...the consumer. My newspaper is less than a buck because its 55%+ ads. TV and radio are more or less free, because they are full of adds. This is good for me, as the things I use or interact with are cheaper. This is why I dislike billboards...no benefit to me. It's also why I'm totally pro junkmail. All that junk keeps postage rates down, and I mail a ton of stuff.
But eggs? It would be one thing if there were two rows of eggs, one for 2 bucks, and one with ads for $1.50. I doubt this will be how it works, so I dislike it. If we saw some discount, I'd be all in favor. (I still won't buy them, as I shell out more for the naturally nested don'thurtthechicken eggs).
Thoughts? Would you buy eggs with ads if they were cheaper? If the only ads to be had had ads would you avoid them entirely?
News you can abuse 2: In Arazona they are trying to pass an initiative that will set up a lottery for voting. So everyone who votes in a major election gets put in a hat, someone gets drawn at random and gets a million bucks.
Now, there are good arguments in favor of increasing voter turnout. However, something like this looks like it will add warm bodies without any attempt to add intelligent ones. I don't want elections full of people who just want the money. Maybe they would take the time to become educated about the issues...but I see no reason to think so. I hope it fails...but I'll keep you informed.
