That reminds me very little of going for a walk at lunch today and realizing at one point that my feet were crunching a bunch of broken walnut shells. I looked up and, yep, squirrel munching happily. For some silly reason, I was immediately reminded of the book C.J. Cherryh didn't write: The Tree of Nuts and Squirrels.

(Then I thought of the song Judith sometimes sings that's based on The Tree of Swords and Jewels, but the combination of concepts was just too painful.)
