This new case is odd. It seemed pretty straightforward, for a father to pass his inheritance to his daughter, but since his daughter was underage, the rights passed to his second wife after his death until their daughter came of age. Now that his daughter is of age, though, the fortune is rightfully hers ( Read more... )

Maybe it has to do with the whole "shut down" thing? It's a really weird way to describe a person, doncha think?

That occurred to me too. She doesn't seem to want to elaborate on her wording, though.

She's gotta be hiding something big... the magatama is still working, right?

Yes. Actually when asked directly if she knew someone who might do this, she got three psych locks. I figure I'll have to get rid of those before I can start working further.

That's as good as saying that she definitely knows someone involved! Do we have any evidence yet, Nick??

Nothing but this strange little gear that I found on the floor of the room. I dusted it for prints and found a good one, but I haven't found whose it is yet.

A gear? That's weird, I don't remember seeing any broken clocks or machines recently...

There was nothing in that room that this gear could have belonged to. I checked inside the grandfather clock and all the gears in that were made of a different material. None of them were missing, either.

Even though I don't have any proof yet, I'm sure it has something to do with this case.

But if there's no other evidence and we can't prove it's connected, we're at a total dead end, Nick!

The trial isn't until the day after tomorrow, so we still have a whole day to investigate. Although I don't know if there's much left to find at the crime scene.

Well, it's more time to prep then we normally get, huh? I guess we're kinda lucky!

There's something bothering me, though. About that gear, and the psych-locks..

Any ideas? Specifically, I mean. Do you know where the gear is from?

There's something strange about the gear, but... that's the thing. I just can't seem to put my finger on it... sorry, Nick.

It's okay. It's in the court record, so even if I can't get Flora to elaborate now, I can get her to on the stand.

For now, I'll reread some of the legal documents Flora was going to sign to see if there are any clues there that might get us going.
