Louise and I went to see Avatar this afternoon. She gave it a score of 8/10 and me 5/10. Specifically, I gave it 2 points for the plot and 3 because it looked pretty. It is difficult not to see it as a simplistic remake of Pocahontas or Ferngully on a really big budget. At best, it is a simplistic and obvious story, at worst, an obvious political commentary.
Also, why was Avatar in 3D? I really am not impressed by the use of 3D to date. It is great that I can see the effect, but what does it add? Certainly nothing towards any story told using 3D.
