Embarking on a new life . . .

May 22, 2006 12:47

It's not as if I haven't done this before, and more than once. But this time, I'm really determined, and I've got the tools I need (which includes people to be supportive and to nag, both of which I'm sure I'll need).

Officially, as of last Thursday, May 18, 2006, at approximately 7:30 p.m., I had my last cigarette. Yepper, gang, that's right, Thunder Lungs, the human chimney, has given it up.

It took the most recent bout with bronchitis to convince me. (Okay, it was sitting on the couch gasping for air, and not being able to take a deep breath that convinced me!) So while I was waiting for the prescription for the inhaler (yeah, like I don't know why I needed THAT!), I asked for a couple more prescriptions. I am now taking a pill twice a day, and wearing a patch. Hopefully, I'll have weaned myself completely away from nicotine altogether by the end of the second week (so I don't have to buy more patches).

After I manage to catch my breath again, I'm going to start walking to work on sunny days (who knows? maybe even on rainy ones) and by the time I'm on vacation, I'll be able to walk to town (only a mile or two from the campsite) instead of drive. I may be fixing up my bike also; just think of all the new clothes I'll need if I lose the weight I want! I'll need to ride my bike to work when I don't have class to save on gas money so I can buy all those new clothes!

Yeah, yeah, getting ahead of myself. So here it is: four days and counting! Wish me luck!
