She
Mercilessly, all the children there
Tease and torment souls naive and weak -
One wonders whether evil does impair
Development in children sweet and meek -
But then, of all the children, one is kind
And finds the one who others treat the worst,
Becoming needed friend to soul and mind:
It is a blessing she is but the first.
Before the bond has time to gel complete
The angel girl must fly so far away -
And years will pass before the soul replete
With love, and yet neglected, sees the day
Another, even kinder soul appears
To rescue she whose years a chore have been.
For all the blessings she knows, it still sears
To be the target of the others' sin.
At target's darkest moment, something small
The rescuer does offer, and it shows
The one who always wanted to stand tall -
Despite the wind which with its gusty blows
Did almost topple over all her hope -
That someone really cares and now she too,
Above ability to heal and cope,
Wants nothing more than helping someone blue.
So when someone does come along her way -
A girl so beautiful eyes ache to see,
And talented and gracious every day,
And blest with boundless generosity,
She tries her best to offer everything,
And yet she knows she'll only lose the friend -
For fate is cruel when sending songs to sing:
No matter how much beauty, they must end.
