Harold’s nose twitched as the scent of rotting garbage wafted down the hallway, followed by, dare he say it, disgusted, angry footsteps. He shifted in his chair and saw John making his way toward him. Dressed in his usual dark suit and white shirt, he was now sporting what appeared to be splashes of tomato sauce, mushrooms, and wilted lettuce.
“What -?” Harold asked, and was interrupted with, “I don’t want to talk about it,” as John stalked past him to the makeshift wardrobe in the corner where he had extra clothes.
Harold held his breath as John chose a new suit and then left to take a shower, calling out over his shoulder, “Next time, make sure my escape route doesn’t end in a dumpster.”
Harold stifled a laugh and went back to work.
