If you come close to Mikado again, Kida thinks but can't exactly threaten out loud, If you even touch him, but he leaves the thought there - Mikado is better than this game, Kida believes, worth protecting, and it's already bad enough that Izaya knows his name.

"You're allowed to admit it if you hate me, you know," Izaya says to Kida (to his eyes blank with tact over hatred, to his fists clenched in his jacket pockets) but Kida knows better than to take up the strangely cheerful offer: barely a year in this city so far, and already he's figured out that you don't tell the truth in Ikebukuro - least of all to this guy.
