Riddle me this: Who's as green as his suit and just woke up with the worst hangover ever? Answer: Edward Nigma, of course. Family members and unexpected visitors will find the Riddler downstairs at the breakfast table, dressed in a green bathrobe, half-heartedly fumbling with his daily ( Read more... )

post-event trauma, listening to himself talk, awkward turtles, family matters, investigations, class act, all it takes is one bad day, meticulous planning, backdated, hunting for clues

[Why look! It's Officer McCann. He walks up to Edward while he's peering into a window taking notes. He's twirling his nightstick around and does his best attempt at a Grady impersonation. It's better than you'd expect.]

Well well, what have we here, creepin' around?

[It's enough to make Edward flinch a little bit, before turning around to find Scout. Still, even considering how much of an ass he made of himself the other night, he attempts a bit of levity.]

Didn't see you there, Officer. You startled me.

[Oh man it totally worked! Be treated to some snickering and a smug smirk.]

Gotta know how ta creep ta sneak up on a creeper.

[His eyes narrow a little bit, and Edward crosses his arms.]

I see Grady was kind enough to let you keep your badge, after all this time.

Oh yeah. What a freakin' prince he is. Still better than the office, I guess.

[There's a bit of an awkward silence.]

...look. About the other night.

[Scout leans up against a lamp post. This ought to be interesting.]

Yeah. Ya said ya had some explainin' to do.

[This isn't going to be easy.]

It was... foolish of me. To do what I'd done. You and Ema were both counting on me and I took advantage of that trust. I won't deny that.

Damn right. Here I was thinkin' maybe we'd get a few steps ahead, an' all ya did was knock us a thousand yards back.

[At least you were able to keep your job, he wants to bite back. But it won't help.]

I made a mistake.

Yeah, ya sure did.

[Scout sighs shortly, thinking. He's not sure he can trust Edward yet, but at least he seems like he might be actually sorry.]

Can I ask ya one thing? Did ya really think it was gonna work? That it would get ya somewhere?

...I did. I honestly did.

Man, Eddie. Yer freakin' delusional. I dunno where ya ever got the idea that somethin' like that would work. Grady is completely outta his mind and don't want help from nobody. We gotta fight him, not join him.

Tell me something I don't already know.

Yeah, I'm guessin' ya learned yer lesson by now.

So what's yer big bad plan now?

...good question, Scout. I'm glad you've asked. Though, ah---if you don't mind, I would prefer that the details be kept strictly off the record. I could get in trouble, after all, scheming something with an officer of the law.

Besides. We all know where that got me last time.

[Though he's trying to joke, it's true. Considering that Scout could very well turn Edward in for his plans and take an eye for an eye, the Riddler needs to know that he can trust this scrappy young officer with the plan.]
