Aaah!

[A clatter as the communicator is dropped.]

Someday, I'd like to know the reasoning behind the shock. I simply haven't had anything to talk about. But as long as I'm here....

Ridiculously easy puzzle goes here )

supply team, communicator, yay puzzles

Three!

That's correct!

...Do you know why, or were you just guessing?

Woah, it was? I'm amazed!

You said there were three lights, so that's...?

puzzledprof February 23 2009, 21:00:27 UTC
True, but that is only part of why you need to flip a switch three times. Remember, you only get to check the lights once.

Oh.

So you have to flip the switches three times to be sure? This kinda puzzle really isn't my strong suit...

You don't actually have to flip all the switches. Would you like a hint, then?

Didn't I already solve it? But yes please.

If you don't know why you got it right, you won't learn anything, though!

Here's my hint: Lightbulbs produce more than light.

shockinglycool February 23 2009, 21:08:16 UTC
They produce... electricity...?

Reply

puzzledprof February 23 2009, 21:09:05 UTC
They run on electricity, actually, but keep thinking!

shockinglycool February 23 2009, 21:11:54 UTC
Actually I knew that, in retrospect. Once I tried to see if I could power a lightbulb myself, on my own power, but it broke, shattered, and that wasn't much fun.

...Heat?

puzzledprof February 23 2009, 21:13:26 UTC
Your own power... you have powers related to electricity?

That's right! Now with a little critical thinking it should be easy to see why it takes three times.

shockinglycool February 23 2009, 21:16:11 UTC
Yeah. But I can't use it for anything other than fighting. It would be kinda neat if I could light things up...

...I feel lost again. Can I have another hint?

Reply

puzzledprof February 23 2009, 21:18:13 UTC
If you could control the amount and pressure of the electricity, perhaps you could?

Alright, another hint: Heat lingers for a bit.

shockinglycool February 23 2009, 21:21:41 UTC
In theory, but electricity is surprisingly hard to control like that. I always overdo it. It's like there's a certain minimum I have to use, or it won't work.

...Hm...

Oh! The one time you get to check, you feel the lightbulbs? Except if you're turning the switches three times, you've already turned them on, right?

Perhaps a surge protector would work? I'm not as familiar with circuitry as I would like.

One last hint. Flipping a switch on and off again counts as flipping it twice.
