Fifty-Second Journal Entry

[Layton is sitting calmly in a room, peering into a microscope. There's a cup of tea and some precariously stacked notebooks nearby. He leans back in his chair and sighs.]

This would be much more interesting if I knew anything about biology, I'm sure.

[Layton stretches, and then suddenly his eyes go wide and in an instant, he:

leaps out of his chair, knocking it over with a loud clatter
whirls around to face an empty spot in the room
draws his rapier and points it threateningly at that same empty spot

After a few moments of breathing hard, he looks confused and replaces his rapier.]

It must have been my imagination. They can't have returned, and even if they did, they can't have gotten into the house.

[He sighs and looks over to the desk -- noticing that the communicator has been recording the whole time.]

Well, there's one way to see if what I heard was real. Did anyone else hear that?
