My Favorite Keith Smith CD
Delaware Valley - Live from the Spring Ball 2003. I can listen to it for hours non-stop (and have many times, and will again). The two very brief clips from the CD available on the web give only the merest taste of his gorgeous sound. It's difficult for me to find words sufficient to describe his playing.
Luminous. That's the best I've been able to do. Every note is like a golden bell ringing.
I never knew that music could glow until I heard Keith Smith play fiddle, first on CD and later in person.
I would love to sound even a little bit like him. If people could tell from my playing that I'd been influenced by him, that I'd learned something from him, I would feel as though I had achieved something very special. Maybe one day.
