Want to know how the AFI show went?

I'll take this oppertunity to write about the disgraceful AFI show I voluntarily witnessed the other night.  This entire will be just one big complaint and criticism.

I have NEVER been so disappointed with a show in my entire life.  How fucking sad is it that I can sit here and tear apart my absolute most favorite band on this Earth because I know they are capable of so much better?  I feel like I got my heart broken the other night by them, I feel so gipped. It's not even funny.

I should be RAVING about this show, saying how it was the best I've ever seen them play! It definitely has to be the worst. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they are AFI, and I had faith in them. I wanted so much to believe that they wouldn't let me down.  They are the Halloween band. AFI and Halloween just coincide.  They have the All Hallow's Eve EP, the songs Halloween, Midnight Sun, Fall Children. Every fucking day is Halloween for Davey for Christ's sake. And the fact that this "Halloween" esque band did not so much as even ACKNOWLEDGE Halloween the other night totally disgusts me.  I'm dumbfounded.

You're nuts if you think I'm happy for this new found MTV bullshit. I hate it. I hate how popular they've become. That's MY band. And using the term sell out is not one that I use often, but the other night, I felt for the first time that they did.  What fucking rockstars.  They closed with that horrible excuse for an AFI song "Love like Winter", while only having 2 encores, one of which included that other MTV and radio friendly hit, "Miss Murder".  The entire set was just fucking lame.  They played song after song that I fucking hated.  They did a whole ONE song off of the Art of Drowning, which was Days of the Phoenix. Big woop. And Big surprise.  The only other old song they did, of course, was God Called In Sick Today.  Other than that, EVERY song was off of Sing the Sorrow or Decemberunderground.  What about the other 7 albums you assholes??? OH. Let me not forget how they played the most boring cover possible of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven". Why on EARTH was that a necessary song to play?  It was bad enough they didn't even MENTION it was Halloween, but then they didn't even play Rabbits or Ever and a Day.

The AFI that I fell in love with freshmen year is completely gone.  They've lost what makes them so special to me.  I'll never have that same band ever again.  Commercial success has officially ruined one of the most important things to me.

I honestly could not even enjoy the show with my disappointment growing more and more after every song.  I kept hoping I'd be pleasantly surprised, and they'd switch it up or something. What a wishful thinker I am.

I will still support AFI. I will still see them when they come around, although I will know going into the show not to expect anything special anymore.  I will always love them for the songs that actually had balls to them, and sent a message to every judgemental asshole out there that said FUCK YOU. That's the AFI that I love.

"open my eyes as I submerge and I won't deny what I've been since birth, I'll die drowned by your standards".  That's not so fucking true now is it?  Not commercialized standards.

The best part of the show was getting all dressed up for it. I'm sorry Allison's first and last time seeing AFI was such a disappointment.

RIP AFI
1990-2006.
