The Fuath or the Baobh was like the Vampire.

It was a creature, or demon, that came from the other world. It would drink the blood of the object of its chase. He came upon one who was asleep and would stab him with a dagger in the heart, or cut his artery, so that the last drop of blood of that person would flow without waking him from ever-lasting sleep.

There was a way to escape the Fuath if the person saw him coming on the field outside and he in the shape of a monster.

The traveler would quickly surround himself with a pentagram. (A circle that a person would put around themselves in the time of danger.

He had nothing but to stand in the place where he was and draw the shape of a circle around himself in the ground with a stick and no power of evil at all would be able to breach the power of the circle.

The wizards strongly trusted the sun-god. The sun was victorious over the powers of darkness that ran the race in the circle and they believed that was why the circle was so effective.

I've used the word "fasgadair" for the English word "vampire". It means bloodsucker.
