Anthropology of Family Life- Polyandrous

Jan 02, 2011 23:31

Recently I've been thinking about a class I took back in spring 2006 called Anthropology of Family Life so I found my old notebook and want to make a couple of notes here about what I learned back then so that I can do more research about what I've been thinking about.

Polyandrous Communities-
Polyandry can occur in Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, and poorly documented in the Manguesas Islands.
Three ethnic Tibetan villages:
- Ladog, a farming community which is the oldest, richest, and most polyandrous
-Gyaung, a herding community which is the poorest, least polyandrous of the group with the most population growth.
-Rongphug- a trade and migrant wage working community where polyandry is preferred, but fails most often
