random update-y stuff

Too busy living life to write about it at the moment. There seems to be a pattern emerging. But wanted to mention a few things of note that have happened recently or will happen soon or are on my mind generally.

1. I am making my bellydance performance debut. This is happening on 7th March at an International Women's day event in South Leith Parish Church halls. This is the venue for my bellydance lessons and they had asked my teacher to perform but she is unavailable so asked for volunteers from class. So in the spirit of doing things that scare the hell out of me, I volunteered to choreograph and perform a duet with my friend Kerry whom I went to the desert with. I am not a dancer and I am sure as hell not a choreographer but I have managed to choreograph a 3 1/2 minute routine with veils and design costumes as well. It's just a little community event that won't matter much to anyone but I am proud of myself for doing it. The bravest bit of all is that I am baring my midriff - I always think it looks shit when you see bellydancers with their midriffs covered so I was determined to get my courage up. This is scarier than the dance itself as I have spent my entire adult life concealing my midriff by any means necessary, but have now done two bellydance classes in my cropped top I got for the performance and no one has died, the world continues turning, and I am feeling ridiculously empowered even by this tiny gesture.

2. Have been corresponding with a customer regarding some nipple tassels. She had many questions about which designs would be easiest to twirl and we were firing emails back and forth, and in the course of this dialogue I have discovered that she is a 34 year old breast cancer survivor and tassel twirling is her way of getting to like her body again after a double mastectomy and a set of implants. She is also life modelling and working with other young women with breast cancer, and I feel humbled and hugely touched that my frivolous little designs have gone on to such a noble purpose. It is more than i would ever have imagined when I started the business and a real lesson to me.

3. I am having a belated go at mis-spending my youth. Friday night was spent at GHQ watching a burlesque show, frolicking on the giant beds with Cherry Loco and Harlequin Kiss, and boogie-ing away in the dressing room with Sir Lance o'Lust (seriously, you haven't lived until you have had one of Scotland's hottest boylesque stars kneeling drunkenly at your feet serenading you with a particularly heartfelt version of "Don't You Want Me Baby?"). Much fun was had, although Saturday was a bit of a trial..

4. I am going to Belfast! To sell nipple tassels! I am listed on the event's Myspace page as a sponsor! I get to stay overnight in a hostel with the other performers! Go me!

5. There is at least one massive project in the works. No details yet as nothing confirmed but watch this space for news as it all progresses.
