Last night I watched a bunch of Lycaon PVs on YouTube because Yuuki. (Seriously, Japan, you can stop it with the beautiful, life-and-wallet-ruining vocalists now.) I figured that this is a younger, indie, non-PSC-affiliated band with a devoted following on both sides of the Pacific (if the number of reblogs on Tumblr images is any indication) - surely the comments on the videos won't be filled with the same kind of wanking and complaining that plague GazettE/Alice Nine/SCREW/D=OUT PVs, right?

Wrong. Same shit, different band. Seriously, is there a visual kei band in the world that is immune to any of the following?

1. Their old stuff was great - this SUXX!!!
2. They haven't been the same since they went major/changed lineups/went through a band-threatening trauma!
3. The singer's voice SUXX. (The Alice Nine variation adds ". . . since Shou took voice lessons. I miss his old style!")
4. They used to be METAL, they're crappy pop now!
5. They totally ripped off (insert other band's name here - often a Western band).
6. These guys look like total faggots! (From the inevitable homophobic male troll).

I feel almost obligated to leave a positive comment on the video after reading all that. I agree with one poster on Lycaon's Eros video (which, um, lives up to its name), who said, "You people keep saying that visual kei has gotten boring, and then when a band steps a little out of their comfort zone and does something different, you post stuff like this."

In other news, I spent Thanksgiving at my brother's place in Philadelphia, where we did the American ritual of eating turkey, watching football and passing out after dinner (and also watched Frozen somewhere in there, which actually lived up to the hype. Best Disney film since the glory days of Little Mermaid/Beauty and the Beast). We went to a big Christmas display elsewhere in Pennsylvania the next day, then I came home and spent the rest of the weekend grocery shopping, doing laundry and working on the latest installment of Camera Eye. (Trying to figure out how to get a non-PSC-affiliated person into the series - not for this installment, for future ones - without violating my rule that no non-PSC people will work for PSC Productions. Because Yuuki. I don't even have to make him a porn star, he did it himself).
