my mother received a letter yesterday in the mail from Dr. James Dobson and his group, Focus on the Family. the envelope stated "Traditional Marriage in the Balance. knowing that James Dobson was a big time christian author i chose to read it....and got a little upset.

This fire of animosity has began to kindle deep within my soul because such ignorance within our society shows me exactly how parts of our nation are trying to hold our development back. These kinds of people are the same ones who said Whitman’s literary work was "a mass of stupid filth." Way back in the day. When I see this kind of behavior continuing today it makes me angry.

I can't say that I posses this level of disagreement with the behavior of ALL Christians though (they are not all so rationally and intellectually decrepit, however I have met an alarming number of them who are, as the direct result of their blinding belief system like Mr. Dobson). A closed mind will never learn anything new, therefore it is dead and should not be telling our nation which path to choose.

As for my belief in the progression of our country I still hold true to it (in comparison to where it has come from). I am uncertain where we stand now and where we are headed though. (I'm not the most political person, I don't keep up with politics very well, but I'm trying) However, if people like Mr. Dobson have enough say in the fate of our nation I may have to change my opinion. I believe that People such as him are out to force our country into a negative direction. However his kind has always existed, only they were even more common in our country the more years you go back in time. Although there are vast numbers of people just like him today, I would have to say that the percentage of free thinkers (such as many of the authors who wrote the books you read, and the creators of the flash animations that you have shown us, as well as you and your friends) has risen in our society and hopefully it will continue to do so. Those free-thinkers are probably the only ones that keep my faith in the progression of our society strong.
