Last night I was out with my friend seeing The Monsters of Folk at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix (less than a mile from my house). I got a text message from a guy in one of my classes. Last week a group of us all exchanged numbers because there was going to be a party over the weekend and we wanted to be able to carpool.
Guy says, "Hey, what's going on tonight?"
My response, "I'm at a concert. You?"
Guy says, "Working for two and a half hours."
We get out of the show around 10:40 and walk home.
Today I go to class and the guy approaches me.
"Thanks for calling me back after the concert."
"What? I never said I would."
"I know. I said thanks for calling me."
"I was out with my friends and after the show I went home."
I sit down and he sends me a text, "I'm just kidding with you."
I'm so tired of people feeling like they are entitled to my time whenever they want to. Just because this guy who I hardly know sends me a text message at 9:30 at night, I am supposed to drop everything that I am doing to call him and make plans or something? This might be a poor example but I feel like he was definitely expecting me to let him know when I was out of the show.
No matter how much I tell people that I am busy... no matter how much I tell people I am stressed out... my time has become that which is not valuable to anyone but me.
This was not a major incident but it definitely was icing on the cake.
