There Are Bigger Fans

In the greater picture of Science Fiction and Fantasy there are people who go all out, but I'm sure most are like me. We enjoy the shows/books/whatever, know some trivia about them, gather a modest and not-very-valuable collection and feel good that we can be "in" with the slathering obsessive fanatics.

I'm pretty happy with my Dr Who fandom. I have books, most from before what many "Whovians" consider the 1st doctor (really the 9th)... make that way before. I have the FASA Role Playing game. I have a set of lead figures that I painstakingly painted myself. I had (long gone I'm afraid) just about every episode from Tom Baker's time as the doctor recorded from PBS.

Because I'm media challenged (don't have cable, satellite, local broadcast or a good enough computer for streaming, much less the time), it took years before I finally saw the careers of Doctors 9, 10, and 11 (or was it 10, 11, 12?) I did see the 8th Doctor, the movie. Didn't see much of Doctors 5, 6 or 7. I'd dearly love to see more of 1, 2 and 3.

Now that I've at least seen what the new hububb is about, I've extended my collection of stuff. I now have 9 mini-figs (produced by http://www.characterbuilding.eu, aka Character Building. I was happiest when I got two Daleks (I'm sorry, weeping angels freak me out, as do the Silence, Cybermen and to a small degree, Ood).

As for today... slept in til about 6:30am after having a night struggling with painful stabbing muscle cramps in one foot. Laundry was done and I completed a pair of crochet fingerless gloves that will be included in a raffle basket later this year... well, completed except for the applique hearts. breimh and I then went East to meet up with one of our new "crew members", Daniel R., at a restaurant in Lake Stevens called "Chopsticks House". I was not impressed with the food, but it was my first time meeting Daniel, and that was nice.

We then did some shopping and came home.

Oh, last night Breimh did make it home (obviously) with the friend he was out with, and we hosted the friend for dinner while same friend, "Cali", worked on trying to hook our Linux computer up with a usb wireless connector to our network. It was a mixed success. Our goal is to use that box to watch streaming video on our t.v. Sadly, it didn't really work. So, Cali is going to re-format the computer with Windows. No grumbles out there please!
