4. How old were you when you first got pocket money and how old were you when your parents stopped giving it? Were you encouraged to get a job? I was 16 when my parents stopped giving me pocket money and about 7 when they started. they encouraged me not to get a job.
5. When would you say is the first time you were allowed to go to the shops independently from your parents to buy something? when i was around 11 for clothes, for sweets and stuff for as long as i can remember
6. Do you remember what the toy was that you “had” to own when you were around 10 years old? no. i remember i really, really wanted a pink power rangers suit when i was about 7 though
7. Was there any particular advert you remember seeing and then nagging your parents to buy the product? This can be anything; toys, food, clothes, car, etc. no, i suppose mcdonalds, because i didn't have a happy meal until i was 16
8. TV - How many hours a week, approximately, do you think you watched when you were a child? (This is easy to work out if you try and do it on a day-by-day basis then add it up.) Watched about 18 hours a week
9. Can you remember any particular advert jingles or product slogans? Recite some which have stuck in your mind. Absolutely none, sorry
10. What movies and television programmes do you particularly remember being “big” when you were a child? Did they have merchandise such as toys or affiliated food/sweets? Power rangers, definitely, i actually don't remember other programmes i used to watch when i was little except neighbours
11. Did you feel any pressure to have certain things because all your friends did? E.g. clothes, accessories, toys, games? yes, those jewllery shag band things. and various acessories on tv like make your own stickers and stuff
12. At what age were you first aware of that kind of pressure? Did you ever experience any bullying which was based around what you did or didn’t have? there was some bullying about pogs and i supposed i became aware of it around 6 or so but it never really bothered me that much
13. Did your parents buy you things when you asked for them or were they quite strict? What was regarded as a “treat” or only given at Christmas or on birthdays, compared to what was bought on a weekly basis? they were quite strict with toys but i mostly wanted make up and girly things which they'd give to me on a reward basis if i was good and stuff
14. Finally, (if you have kids of your own) Do your children ever nag you for products they see advertised on TV? Do you feel under pressure to buy them these products to make them happy or are you strict about what they can and cannot have?
