By now you know how it goes...
Here are my words from
arathreel:
Sewing
Baking
Wardrobe (I've never seen someone with so large a wardrobe)
Dancing
And... someone has to do it... Purple
1Seewing
My mother taught me to sew before I was 6, and I was on a machine by third grade. I remember making doll clothes and embroidering ElfQuest drawings. It was always a skill I had, but 2 things happened to change it. I joined the SCA my freshman year of college. Garb has always been what drew me in (though we don't want to think about what my first outfit looked like)> Then I was scheduled to take Costuming 1. I had heard if you could prove you could sew, you could be put into Costuming 2. I did and well, found a place in the theatre I didn't even know I needed.
While theatre has gone by the wayside, I am still sewing. I have worked in a professional costume company, a high-end design company and for a garb business. I make wonderful things for friends and family and am proud of my skills and talents.
I am always willing to teach and to share my skills. Now it's a part of the total that is me.
2. Baking
I think I got this one before so I'll go a little deeper. I mentioned the cookie-fu, which I have. I've stared developing my own recipes and branching out into different cookies than my standard ones. I love making something that looks complicated and yet just took a little time. I love sharing cookies with people. I get a thrill when people tell me they're delicious, not because of praise of my skills, but enjoyment of their enjoyment of the food.
And when in doubt, food comforts everyone at almost any time. I like to bring that to the people around me.
3. Wardrobe
What can I say, I am a clothes horse. I think some of it comes from the sewing. My scadian wardrobe is extensive. Some of it has to do with my size. I am plus sized (how I detest that moniker, but it's what I've got to work with) and finding stylish clothes that fit and flatter my style has always been a challenge. So when I find a lot of clothes I like I hang on to them.
I adore costumes. I enjoy the SCA, steampunk, and goth. I have business attire, casual attire, formal wear and knock about clothes. I try to take care of the clothes I have so that I can wear them for years to come. It's a good habit. I had a formal occasion recently that I didn't have money to buy a new dress. But my closet was there with the perfect dress properly hanging up and waiting to be worn.
4. Dancing
I love dancing with people. I love scadian dancing and going with a bunch of girl friends to a dance night. 80s night, goth night, Irish Music night, it's all good. I don't do country though, or the slide... just sayin'.
Really it's a social thing. I really want t o take ballroom dancing lessons too. That would just be the best. Then of course, find a venue (knowing me it would require another costume/outfit) to dance the dances in!
5. Purple
If you haven't figured it out, purple is my favorite color. I cannot remember a time when it hasn't been. According to my mother at 11-15 or so months I would pick out purple things to play with. At a young age I remember being contemptuous my classmates who changed their favorite color every day. Those weren't your favorites then! Your favorite color is the one that's with you always!
It's practically the starting point of summation of "who am I." I look at purple and it makes me happy.
