Coronation was great. Props to Husband Mine for taking the beamish boy practically all day. Thus I got to attend Her Majesty as she was crowned. That was fun. I always like doing the behind the scenes stuff. I should do this more often!
The site was amazing. An old church across the street from the actual green where the "Shot heard 'round the world" occurred. I still find it amusing that no one knows who fired the first shot.
But back to the site. They had a toddler room, a nursery, a room with pool tables and ping pong tables; they didn't even have to do any youth activities, the site took care of it! There was a large room for day board, and while it wasn't large enough for everyone there, if you went upstairs there was the feast hall where merchants were and many more tables for sitting and hanging out.
The bread was amazing. Lady Elenor did it all and it was faboo! The rest of the food was up my alley, tho not entirely for the husband.
We left before the second court. Even though the attendants were going to be rotated, there was no way for me to leave the stage discretely during court. But I liked this and want to do it at more events.
It was a rare event that I took so little photographs. But I was working it and Jeff was on Charlie-duty. Still there were 3 million people taking photographs. I am of 2 minds about that. On the one hand they do detract from the medieval-y-ness of the whole day. On the other hand, I am a photo hog myself and know the urge to want to record the day.
Usually I think the no flash policy is a good compromise, alas that wasn't completely followed today. Still I won't condemn photo taking en toto, even as I didn't entirely like it.
We got to Grandpa Bob's around 5:30. Charlie was and proceeded to be an angel. He called him "Grandpa" with no prompting all weekend. Every toy Charlie touched had to be shown to Grandpa. And there was a small toy cannon that Jeff made that Charlie found within 10 seconds of getting into the house.
Charlie always said please and thank you the whole time we were there. That pleased Grandpa to no end. He likes the polite children.
Getting the beamish boy to bed was a trifle difficult. New place, new environment and all that, but he did sleep in his own mattress to boot. That was nice, lemme tell you!
Today we stayed with Grandpa Bob until 11:30 and went up to New Hampshire for lunch and some sales tax free shoppies. We tried assorted friends and relatives, but failed to make connection. That was ok as well. We hadn't really set up this weekend as a "visit all the relatives time" so it was all good.
Over night the trees turned from green to the gorgeous colors of fall. Driving home was a pleasure. Between the trees and the mist from the terribly wet and humid day, it was just beautiful!
And we even got home in time for dinner.
