It boggles my mind that, given some of the things that have been going on with Gaza, anyone who publically declares themselves to be less than on their knees blowing Israel is, instead, on their knees blowing Osama. For decades, Islamic countries have failed to provide relief for the Palestinian exiles because if they stopped being marginalized by the Israelis, the Islamic movement in the region would have one less galvanizing point of contention. They could recruit the Red Cross to alleviate Palestinian suffering. This actually bears a lot of similarities to what the Russians did to Berlin after WWII, we countered their blockades with the Berlin Airlift. Israel cannot shoot at Red Cross planes and hope to retain any political capital in the world. The solution is available, but the Islamic world isn't willing to take it.
That doesn't relieve Israel from any culpability for their actions, but at the same time, as long as Islam stands idly by while their fellows suffer, the world will stand idly by too. The Islamic world is setting the precedent here. We aren't going to reverse our established opinions here in America about Israel and Islam until we see a clear role reversal on their part. They could make this happen. They won't. They would rather have half a million martyrs than positive world opinion.
At least, that is how it seems to me.

(I talked to Nickel about this just now, BTW, and he was pointing out that these people have access to helicopters. I don't know why they don't use them for it, but my guess is that it has to do with diplomatic reasons -- or possibly because they're not 100% sure that the Israelis won't shoot them down, claiming they "didn't realize it was the Red Cross and they shouldn't have been there", or something.)
If I had the money and influence, I would tell them that I was sending relief in by helicopter, I would announce to the media that I was doing this, and I would use my influence to get the press to cover it, and then I would freaking do it. And if I got called a nazi for it, I would give everyone the giant finger and tell them to remove their lips from Israel's ass and do the right thing for once. Because -I- would know I wasn't a nazi, and if anyone's opinion is swayed by that bullshit, they're worthless, anyway.
Sadly, I have neither money nor influence, so all I can do is fantasize about giving Israel the finger.
