tonight at 7 - 9pm i have a meeting with my tutor and to meet others doing the course in my area, for my "Data, Computing and Information" course, starts saturday 3rd (hence my mood). There will be meetings once a month starting next month (tutorials) till sept (not counting July, cause it's our "holiday month") will post again after it to let you all know how it went on.

now my "short course" Web Basics: Design, Development and Management starts thursday 1st, i took a look around it and it seems fun! the following is taken from the study guide - week 1 - web applications and the internet -

Aims and learning outcomes:

This week we shall begin to set the agenda for the course and shall cover some of the broader issues regarding the development of applications for the internet and Web.
Our aims this week are to:
Aims
♦ provide a context for the history of the Web;
♦ introduce some of the protocols, standards, and frameworks for developing Web applications;
♦ introduce the concepts of usability and accessibility for Web applications;
♦ introduce the importance of creating valid standards-compliant XHTML code
♦ introduce a number of common HTML tags to create a validated XHTML document and link this to an associated external CSS style sheet.
On successfully completing this week’s study you should have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Learning outcomes
♦ understand something of the history of the internet and the Web and their impact on the deployment of distributed applications;
♦ be able to explain the basic modes of operation of the client-server model of the Web and the HTTP protocol;
♦ understand something of the role of recommendations and standards in the design of Web applications including, but not limited to, HTML, XHTML and CSS;
♦ be able to utilise one or more mark-up languages so as to create a simple static web page.
