My dad wrote a pretty excellent song about how Moses doesn't get to go to the Promised Land, so that detail of the story is pretty firmly embedded in my memory.
Yeah, "sound bite" phrases in the media are definitely irksome, not just because they get repetitive and sap creative phrasing, but also because they frequently spread out and set the tone of discourse even /off/ the screen. Sheer repetition gets certain slants caught under the skin... Even worse if what's embedded is inaccurate.
