One of the unexpected aspects of my living-in-Montana-ness is that for the first time in my life (unless you count the three years I spent at an extremely Waspy private school), I actually notice that I'm Jewish on a day-to-day basis.

It's odd. So far, it's just meant that I get really self-conscious whenever I talk about money. I've even slipped back into that old habit Mom drilled into me when I was in elementary school about not bending down to pick up pennies when I drop them. It's stupid. Just something automatic that happens after the first few times you bring up your religion and get that surprised, blank look that you get.

It's all in the geography, really- I mean, at home, a Native American would probably draw stares, but here they're a big chunk of the population, and nobody gives them a second look.
