I found this in a book I borrowed from Janna, called The Ill-Made Mute, by Cecilia Dart-Thornton. It just resonated with me and I had to share.

"...[her thoughts'] intensity tempered only by an ever-present thin blue trickle of grief for loss, which ebbed and flowed at random, as grief will."
