RollerFit

So last night I sucked up my nerves and went to my first RollerFit class. As I was getting ready Sara Bareilles' "Brave" came on the radio and I took it as some kind of sign.

I got lost on the way so was running a little late. You'd think I'd have my town sussed out by now. It was pretty tempting just to turn around, but needing to prepay online helped me stick to my guns.

God it was a workout. There was one point where I had to sit down because I was seeing spots and feeling lightheaded and throw-uppy. I have never exercised that hard before. In the recent past I've only ever exercised in 15 minute bursts too, so the hour class was a massive ask. I am so out of shape. I'm incredibly rusty with the skating, but that's to be expected I suppose. The cute instructor boy assured me that I'd improved a lot even in that hour, so that's something.

Everyone's just lovely. They grabbed me water when I needed to sit and assured me that whenever I need to do that, that's fine. They're not a bootcamp they assured me. I've got to remember to not keep pushing myself to the point of sick. Fitness will come in time.

I think it was fun though. I think I was kind of too exhausted to tell, but there's a lot I like about it. Cute boy for one. Eye candy is a big motivator, isn't it? The people generally are pretty fabulous. The diversity of it. We sort of switch back and forth between skating drills and skating riffs on traditional exercises. Skates are pretty fabulous weights for things like leg lifts! There was a bit of free skating in there too. I also love having music on. There were some 80s tunes which made me feel right in my element. I also really like the idea of getting into this on the ground floor and being involved in something different. You ask other people what they do to exercise and it's all soccer or netball or the gym or whatever. I can say RollerFit.

I was very very sore and wiped out last night. My husband is an angel who made dinner while I took a long leisurely shower. We've decided that's how it'll work on Tuesday nights. I'll work out some simple meals, and he'll put it all together when he gets home. With the new job he's getting back around 6:30, and I finish at 7, so it works well.

I like that I have to buy my classes online, because I think it's going to make me more accountable and reduce the risk of me getting lazy. I've also got my eye on these: http://shop.rollergirlpromotions.com.au/product/moxi-ivy-jungle-skates. No sense paying $5 a week to hire their skates if this is a long term thing, right? And these are much more fabulous. I got a $10 voucher so that'd pay for a bit, but I'm curious as to whether I could buy skates somewhere local so I can try them on. We'll see.
