Our neighbors have a dog. A young miniature schnauzer that they keep outside most of the day. They keep her shaved so her fur won't get matted, and her ears have the worst crop job I have ever seen. It's like they just cut off the top tip so she has these weired square ears that flop down. Most times when I take out the trash, that dog is out in the yard, jumping up against the fence and crying at me. I come over and reach over the fence (it's only about three or four feet tall I'd say) and pet her. And she quiets down and gets this blissful look on her face like it's the most attention she's been given all day. When I have to go back inside, she cries and begs me not to go.

Today as I was petting her, she started jumping wildly, I think she was trying to climb the fence to get into my arms.

The neighbors have two small children, so they have reasons for keeping the dog outside all the time. But holy Jesus people, if you have young kids you probably don't have time for a dog too. >< And if you have to keep it outside all the time, then you /really/ shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. Especially in the middle of summer where temperatures can bump into the upper nineties and lower hundreds.

I want to kidnap that dog and hide her in my house. She will be cool and only ever have to go outside to potty. My current two dogs would not be thrilled, but I don't care. That is too sweet a dog to leave outside all day. >< And yet if I did so, I would be the one in trouble. I think I would name her Bridget.
