Yes, I know. Once I said my goal of one fic per day I stopped doing it. I'm awesome. >.<
Disclaimer: Power Rangers belongs to Saban. I just play with them and blow things up. :D
A/N: Haven’t written this universe for a while. For anyone who wants to re-read, or for anyone reading for the first time, there's a nifty tag at the bottom called "New Hope" which will lead you to Chapter's 1 and 2 in DW, and in LJ. All three chapters are really short, I know. Sorry.
This fic has come back to life thanks to
defeatedbyabridge, and
Powerbook Medic who got me my shiny new power cord so that I can use Zar again. YAY!
Rated: T because it’s dark.
Summary for New Hope:When Darkonda attacks the Dark Fortress, Astronema is stranded on Earth without weapons, without her magic, and without Ecliptor. But the Dark Fortress isn't all Darkonda planned to conquer.
New Hope
Ashley grabbed the girl and pulled her behind her, shielding her. The other rangers all managed to get to their feet.
“Well this is a sorry sight,” Astronema said, looking over the rangers.
“What do you want?” Andros demanded, carefully moving to stand beside Ashley who was uncomfortably close to Astronema. The young girl behind her seemed confused, but not at all frightened. Ashley guessed that she had no idea who Astronema was, or what was going on.
Astronema sighed, taking a step forward. “Darkonda hasn’t just attacked Earth,” she told them, wondering how much they knew. Not that she actually knew anything about what was going on beyond the fact that Darkonda was on a power trip, and from the looks of things, he was winning. “He destroyed Dark Specter, and attacked the Dark Fortress.”
The rangers exchanged looks. “How is that our problem?” Carlos demanded.
Astronema glared at him, “Darkonda’s trying to take over the universe. He needs to assert his power. What better way to do that than to destroy the rangers that have been a constant source of irritation to the former great monarch of evil?”
“So Darkonda’s trying to destroy us,” TJ stated, unimpressed. “That’s nothing new.”
“Really?” Astronema asked, making a show of looking around.
“All right,” Cassie snapped. “You’ve made your point. Now what do you want?”
Astronema looked at the five rangers standing in front of her. They were all injured, their clothes were filthy and torn. The Black Ranger looked like he was barely managing to stand up. Maybe this was a bad idea. Of course this was a bad idea. But it was the only one she had.
“I propose an alliance. We have a common enemy. We both stand a better chance of defeating him if we work together,” she told them.
“We don’t need your help,” Cassie told her curtly.
“Your current condition would suggest otherwise.” Unfortunately, no one could argue with that.
“You have a plan?” TJ asked after a minute.
“Of course I have a plan!” Astronema snapped at him. She didn’t.
“We need to discus this,” Andros said, gesturing for Ashley to go back with the other rangers.
“Come on, honey,” Ashley said to the girl, trying to lead her away.
“Where?” she asked, not budging from where she was standing.
“It’s ok,” Ashley eyed Astronema. She was watching her, unamused.
“No,” the girl said, fear creeping into her voice.
“Sweetie-” Ashley tried again.
“I want my mommy!” the girl cried, breaking away from Ashley and running back to Astronema, hiding behind her.
Astronema looked down at her. The rangers all gaped at her. Astronema looked only mildly surprised. She didn’t make a move towards the girl.
She looked back up at the rangers. They looked positively horrified. Astronema would have smiled under other circumstances. Seeing the Power Rangers standing before her looking terrified was quite a site. Even if it was under, she glanced down for just a second, unusual circumstances.
The Red Ranger seemed to be the first to come to his senses. He gave her a look that was somewhere between a warning and a demand for an explanation.
Astronema almost rolled her eyes. “I’m not going to harm a child,” she said. It was insulting. What exactly did they think she was going to stoop to?
“Than send her over here,” the Red Ranger told her, calmly.
Astronema looked back at the girl. She was clinging to her leg again, staring up at her, frightened. “She doesn’t seem to want to go,” Astronema told him.
“Astronema-”
“The child is not my concern,” Astronema interrupted him. “Do we have an agreement or not?”
Andros looked back at the other rangers. Ashley was still staring at the girl with concern. Cassie looked adamantly against the idea of working with Astronema, Carlos looked like he was in too much pain to think about anything, clearly at least, and TJ was staring back at him. Andros nodded slightly and TJ’s eyes shifted to Astronema for just a second, then he mirrored the gesture.
Andros looked back at Astronema. And the girl. That really just looked strange, he thought. “All right,” he said, finally. “What’s your plan?”
