Disclaimer: I don’t own any of it. Duh.

Summary:Karone and Andros, AU, post the battle of KO-35. Karone was never kidnapped in this. Also, the battle was apparently much worse than in canon.

Rated:K+

Warnings:There’s nothing in here that would mandate a warning, but this is sooo not fluff.

Dreams

Andros had expected to be the only one awake at this hour. He’d come into the Aquitian computer lab to do some personal research. Or at least that was what he intended to tell anyone who might question him.

He hadn’t expected to find Karone there.

He stood in the doorway for a few minutes waiting for her to say something. When she didn’t, he thought maybe she hadn’t heard the door. Trying to make as much noise as possible, so as to not startle her, he walked over to stand behind her chair. She still didn’t look up.

Andros sighed and put a hand on her shoulder, “Aren’t you tired?”

“Exhausted,” she admitted.

“Karone,” he said softly.

“I can’t sleep Andros.”

“You have to. There’s nothing-”

“No,” she spun her chair around, interrupting him, her voice breaking “I can’t sleep. Every time I do... I dream about-” Her sobs cut her off, as she fell forward, leaning against him.

Andros wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. She didn’t need to explain. He knew she would wake up, and cry for hours every night. And he knew it wasn’t nightmares that where keeping her from sleep, it was the opposite. Good dreams. Dreams where everything was still the way it had been. Dreams where their lives hadn’t been destroyed. Dreams where they where still together.

It wasn’t sleep Karone feared, it was waking up.

He knew not only because he slept in the bed beside hers every night, in the small cramped room of the Aquitian Refugee Base, but because he suffered the same fate every morning.

“It’ll be all right,” he promised quietly, holding her closer. He just wished he could believe that.
