Well this time last week we were watching Queens of the Stone Age. Here's my run down from the gig;
-The Futureheads supported. Don't know if you've heard of them, but I'd only heard Decent Days beforehand and that hadn't really sunk it till I saw them. They were really great live, i've since bought the album and i'm enjoying it. A few songs to skip over, but a few great ones too. Decent Days and Nights and Meantime sounded fucking awesome live. They also had this cool light thing going, everything dark, light flashing onto each member during Decent Days, looked very very cool.
-Definitely miss Nick Oliveri stage presence wise, and miss his songs. The new bass player handles it well, but really just stands and plays the songs.
-Not really into the keyboardist that much. Kinda felt like she was just there for show, but the keys sounded alright in about two songs
-Lights weren't as good as Interpol, but cool trees in the background and looked suitably eerie in some parts. :P
-Ended up getting a little too close to the mosh pit, so had to put up with a few knobs in Billabong shirts who had heard No One Knows a few times jumping around into people and being generally annoying. Plus some knob who jumped on Victoria's back whom i'd liked to have given a right old whack, but alas, we can't resort to violance these days....plus the bouncer was staring straight at the guy. ;)
-The place was absolutely packed! We got there about 10 minutes before the doors opened, and the queue was down the street and around the corner!
-Joey put on a great drumming performance, I was really impressed. Loved the drum solo in Avon
-Troy is great - still keeping the suit up.
-I like Josh Homme's dress sense (don't know what happened with the hair on Rove)
-I found myself getting a bit bored in the middle of some of the new songs. I disliked the version of Monsters in the Parasol they played, plus they didn't play Regular John. :\
-Funny bit - someones keys ended up on stage, Josh picks them up, shows them to the crowd, then puts them down his pants and walks off the stage. Then came back out for the encore and threw them back to the crowd with a cheezy grin.
-Josh seemed really humble at the end and apologised for the last gig they played with Nick. Said something along the lines of, "Well, it was rather eventful last time we played here, we didn't want to leave you with a sour taste in your mouth". Anyway, seemed really appreciative and said they'd be back soon.
-Hearing was finally restored to 100% after 3 days. Battled to hear anything after the gig, and my right ear was suffering for a few days afterwards.
Rock n roll \m/
