A better day except for the damn city & the damn ants

OK, my mood has been better today, although I still couldn't keep myself from raising my voice at S & M this morning when their antics were hindering our getting out the door to get S to school when we were already running late, despite being up since 6 am when M woke up wanting to nurse even though she was up till nearly 10 last night. Ugh.

But, I took S to school & went in to read stories to her class (she was the special helper this week), then went to parent-teacher conference. (apparently S is doing very well in her new school, which I am pleased about). Then I took M to Hobby Lobby to get some feathers for their Halloween costumes (they are indian horse riders...or S is, M is just an indian baby), got S a sewing project for Christmas, then decided to stroll down to the dollar store to see what we could find. It is a beautiful day so we walked a couple parking lots over to Home Depot to get some fall flowers. I ended up spending about $20 but it will make our yard look so much more cheerful & give me some good time outside.

On the way home I saw that in the empty lot next to the grocery store strip they are chopping down the 5 beautiful healthy pine trees that peppered the about 3 acre lot. They couldn't work around those trees??? UGH. Hate this city & it's lack of respect for nature. Those pine trees are the only thing that makes this area beautiful & they are cutting them down left & right for houses, strip centers, stores, etc etc.

So I get home & start setting out the flowers in the ring around our one pine tree in our front yard (that is not looking too good, which makes it even sadder for me to see them chopping down perfectly healthy ones) & I get attacked by fire ants!!!! UGH UGH UGH! I was hoping the kids could help me plant flowers this afternoon....guess I'll have to figure that one out or plant them carefully myself. *pout*
