I was called into work 4 hours early Friday night for 2 meetings. The second of which was myself (I am night shift supervisor), my employee and my manager.
During the meeting I was shown video tape of myself and asked to explain my actions. First clip, I was walking down a hallway at about 1:15am, I was asked where I was going. I was going to the restroom. Second I was shown a clip of myself sitting on the curb outside with my head between my knees - I had a nose bleed from the excessive dry air in the building so I walked out in the rain to get some moisture in my head and pick my fucking nose in private - and thirdly I was shown a video of a section of our department with the lights off and told that we were not in the department - which we were but those lights are off so we can see who is at the door - because of glare on the window.
I feel extremely violated by having to see myself having a nosebleed which I thought I was doing in private!!!
I know that security is important in a lot of workplaces but is this kind of tactic acceptable? Ethical? Do they own me enough to watch me every minute and record it? And if they don't trust me to do my job without that kind of spying do I want to work there?
That being said I just had a perfect score on my performance evaluation.
As Ole Ben Franklin said ---
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"
