I really love the Sookie novels! Can't watch the HBO series...but the novels are great! (Still have sex to skip, but that's easier in a novel...)
I adore Sookie. Especially in the audiobooks, the voice actress has just the right Southern Twang with the snark that the novels make me feel like home. :) And I think the novels keep getting better, and so does Sookie, except that she gets much more promiscuous. She goes through boyfriends every other book, and I still don't know who I actually want her to end up with. Most of them are sexy, but just not righteous enough.
And that is my major beef with the novels--the morality of various characters is way too ambiguous. I am never sure if I actually want Sookie to be helping some the characters she helps. Most of them seem too much on the evil side for her to even be hanging around with. At least she keeps questioning this herself.
Stephenie definitely didn't read Charlaine, and Charlaine has little respect for Stephenie's vamps (it's lol), so yeah, the similarities are just the pervasiveness of vampires. I'm pretty sure Charlaine made a vamp in a later book resemble Edward and had him die in a really horrible way, just to mess with the Twilight fans. I really didn't like that. >:[
So Sookie gets less wholesome, but keeps on with the "good-natured, common sense and down-homeyness".
I haven't yet read the latest two novels. They aren't on audiobook yet! Drat.

And what vampire did you think was based on Edward? Nobody stuck out to me.

I really don't know what ship to ship! I drives me nuts, actually. A whole lot of them are sexy, but not really healthy build-a-life guys for Sookie.
It was Andre, Sophie Ann's devoted guy. He was young, intense, and just gave me an evily-Edward vibe, though maybe it was just me. And I really didn't like how Quinn killed him at the end of that book. Rubbed me all the wrong ways.

As for his death.. you're supposed to take issue with it. It's definitely not over. (Although I must admit, sometimes Sookie decides to feel guilty about things that really irritate me. Like the whole thing with Debbie Pelt - I wish she'd told Alcide straight-up as soon as it happened, and not tried to hide it for so long, you know?)
Anyway, read the next two books so we can talk shipping!!!
