I've been feeling a bit poorly this week - I've got a cold in August which feels very unfair - but I think it's because I over-exerted myself at the weekend.

On Saturday I went walking with my group, from Altrincham to Knutsford.  It's a long route but almost entirely flat.  I don't usually like flat walks because they are dull, but this one was quite pleasant and probably suited to the weather as it was very changeable. I enjoyed talking to a few people I've not seen for a while.  There were two pub stops, and the second was in Mobberly, which is a delightful Cheshire town that sits right under the flight path from Manchester Airport which slightly spoils the peaceful atmosphere.

I was pretty exhausted after the walk but had agreed to meet my friend Jade as it was her birthday and she was having drinks that evening.  I went over to her flat (which is thankfully very close) and chatted to her while she got ready, then we went into town for a drink and we were joined by James as he knows her too.  I didn't stay very long as it was very late and I was so tired, but James stayed out for a few hours I think.  I was asleep so didn't notice when he returned.

On Sunday we dragged our sleepy selves into town for lunch at a Greek deli that we both like, and then for some quick shopping.  I couldn't decide between two pairs of jeans in Next so bought both which was very extravagant of me but very enjoyable.

In the afternoon I met up with my fellow line dancers on Canal Street for some outdoor line dancing, which we do once a month during summer.  This was one of our most successful afternoons as the weather was good and we had lots of people watching and clapping by the end. I really enjoy the experience as it's the only time we have an audience for our dancing, and it's nice to be appreciated.

That evening James and I watched The Godfather Part two although I did doze off near the end.  It's such a long film!  Very good - but not as good as the first film I think.

On Monday I had the blissful experience of staying in bed because I had booked the day off so I could have a long weekend.  June and July were so busy in work that I really wanted something to look forward to once they were over.  It's much quieter now so I might as well have a day off and use up some leave.  I purposefully didn't make many plans - it was good just to be not in work.  I had my hair cut so it's not in my eyes any more, and then went to Argos and bought a toaster, a mini-blender and a new clothes airer.  It was hard work getting everything home again but it's very exciting having new gadgets.  We've not had a toaster before because I generally don't eat much bread, but lately I'm having toasted pitta bread for lunch so need to be able to toast it!  The new clothes airer is amazing too because it's huge - nearly as tall as I am - and very wide so the clothes get more air and dry quickly. These things make me very happy.

I had an afternoon nap and then had to go off to lindy hop.  We learnt some Charleston which was actually more enjoyable than standard lindy hop.  Dancing in pairs is still tricky but everyone seemed to enjoy the Charleston moves more so they were better at them.

On Tuesday I went back to work but as there aren't many events on at the moment and our manager is away, we're all taking it easy and having a bit more fun in the office.  My assistant Jason finishes this week which is sad but I don't have enough work for him now really.  Today he found out that his next temp job is in our research office so hurrah, we'll still see him and he isn't so worried about money now.

I started feeling a bit sniffly on Tuesday but thought it would go away.  I still went to line dancing that evening but took it easy.  When I arrived I was told that I have the best attendance record this year (I've only missed one session since last September) so am glad I went. We learnt a new dance so the song Mercy by Duffy, but as I don't really like the song I don't think I'll like the dance much either.  Was more tired than usual because of my cold but still agreed to dance to songs called Lightning Polka and Thunderbolt, which are pretty fast but I like them so couldn't say no.

On Wednesday I felt worse and really wanted to leave work early but didn't like to ask - I was hoping someone else would suggest it so it wouldn't look like I was too keen!  I muddled through the day and picked up lots of food to toast on my way home. Couldn't stay long as had a line dancing committee meeting in the evening.  I went to John and Gary's lovely house, and found out that they had a civil partnership in July but didn't make a big deal of it so I didn't know.  Their photos are lovely.  Also, another dancer, Andy, got married in Vegas apparently and had his UK civil partnership in the same day in July.  There must be something in the air at the moment - everyone is either getting married or having babies it seems.

Anyway, the committee meeting was good.  Lots of discussion of the pride parade as it's getting closer now.  We're having a Broadway theme, complete with top hat and cane.  It's going to be great.  We've also been invited to dance at a Law Society Western-themed dance in October and the group will be paid to dance so we've got to be good.  Only a few good dancers will be asked to go, so I really hope I'm one of them.  I'm probably the best new dancer, and am quickly overtaking the more experienced dancers, and I am always at our Tuesday sessions so they know I'm keen!

Today I felt a bit better, which was just as well as we all went out for lunch to say goodbye to Jason.  This evening I considered going to the gym but thought it was a bad idea as I've not been well but now I wish I'd gone as I feel better and have spent the evening being very lazy instead.  Have started watching The Big Bang Theory and it's quickly become my new obsession.  I've seen nearly the whole of the first series since Monday.

James has just come home and filled the flat with the smell of burnt toast.  He loves charcoaled food for some reason.  We've got English muffins, crumpets, potato cakes, poptarts and lots of unsliced bread.  Yes, toasting is a lot of fun, who knew?

This weekend will involve more walking and going home to see my family for my little brother's birthday.  The weekend after involves a trip to the Lake District with my mother so might not have a chance to update for a while.  Back soon!

linedancing, lindy hop, films, the big bang theory, ramblin'
