Most unfortunate wording in an email today:
If you have ever been in a LGBT abusive relationship, can you please take 10 minutes and fill in my questionnaire,
[Questionnaire provided.]
Unfortunately, I had a very low response so far and I need 50 more responses by mid March.
I'm sure she doesn't mean anything by that comment but... really? Not enough people have been in an abusive relationship for your liking?
Today I was out of the office at a training session from 9am until 4pm, and this was one of 36 emails I found when I returned. Geez, people, leave me alone. Most of them are people trying to register for conferences, so they are easily dealt with, but it's amazing how much time is taken out of your day when you have four conferences open for bookings.
Yesterday I was invited along to a lunch seminar which took place at the
Radisson Edwardian Hotel which is SO FANCY. Someone actually opened the doors for me when I entered the building. I could get used to that treatment, really. The lunch was fantastic too. The seminar was really just an excuse to sell an event management software that we don't want and can't afford, but every so often someone from our office goes along to their lunches just to enjoy the good food and socialise with other free-loaders. I ate the food, I enjoyed the very professional slideshow, and then I left, and purposely left through the main entrance so someone could open the door for me on the way out too. A good day.
And yesterday evening was fun too as I went line-dancing. For several of the dances I was sharing the front row with a guy called Andy who is very light on his feet and a good dancer. He clearly gets bored with the easy dances so he started a bit of a diva-off with me by adding twiddly bits and twirls into dances which are normally quite straightforward, and daring me to copy him. I'm glad to say that I managed everything he did and felt pretty exhilarated afterwards.
Today I was at a training session to learn about taking minutes in meetings. This would have been useful about two weeks ago, before I had to take minutes for the first time. Nevertheless, it was a good course and it will be useful in future. I still haven't written up the minutes from the last meeting so now I have no excuse to keep putting it off.
Tonight Man Utd are playing at home against that team that Beckham now plays for, so James will be glued to the screen instead of taking me to the cinema as usual. I am not too bothered about that though, as I have lots to do at home and after dinner I think I will retire to the bedroom and do some craft work instead. Was planning on making my mother a present for Mother's Day and have not got very far so really need to get going on that.
Oh, and t'other day James and I booked a short break in Bristol over Easter. We wanted to go away somewhere, and it was a bit too late to book for London because the trains were expensive and the cheap hotels all full, so we spent a while considering where else we were interested in going. Pretty much everywhere north of Manchester is not of interest to James because he's been there before, so we looked south. Portsmouth was first choice but it's too far, then we considered Cardiff, then when we realised that most trains to Cardiff go through Bristol anyway we decided to go there and enjoy a shorter rail journey. We're only staying one night but I'm looking forward to it.
However, now they are planning lots of work on the rail lines over that weekend apparently so we might have great difficulties getting back. I really hope we don't get stranded in Birmingham or something equally unpleasant.
James' laptop is behaving rather oddly so he's taken it somewhere to get fixed today, so I might not be able to update for a while.
And finally, one of the daffodils in the bunch on my desk is pretty much the most perfect daffodil I've ever seen. I'm besotted with it, and have actually taken to gazing at it in wonder. I think this is a sign that I'm overtired and need to go home. Be good, folks.
