I have a cold. It's a real sneezy-sniffly thing. Ugh, what's this, the tenth cold this year or something? I've had a lot, anyway. I partly blame the students, I partly blame the fact that we hardly ever put the heating on in our flat and I walk to work in the cold every morning, and I partly blame my noticeable lack of fruit and veg recently. Multivitamins from tesco don't quite replace actual healthy food.
So, as James is out all evening, I have the heating the flat on high, lots of candles lit, several hot drinks in front of me and am knocking back orange juice in an effort to fight the cold out of me as soon as possible.
Ooh, but look, I'm on the internet and I'm not in work! This is an amazing thing, and must mean that Sky broadband has finally worked out! Yes indeedy, we now have Sky tv, a Sky phone line, and Sky broadband, after um... four months of wrangling. What service! Oh, and now I read that people with fixed phone lines in the UK will be charged a broadband tax in a few years. Well that's just great, Darling.
Today I left work at midday because I was taking the half-day Christmas shopping leave that we were all offered for the first time this year. It felt amazing, and was very useful because I had lots to do. I got my hair cut so it's lovely and short for my holiday, I collected my traveller's cheques and Thai baht from the Post Office, I went to Abakhan and bought wool for my knitting group and some glass painting liner, then went to Marks and Spencer for gluten-free sausages and a gorgeous blue jumper, to the jewellers to get my watch clasp tightened, to Aldi for food supplies and Paperchase for a gift box. And I was still home before the time I would normally finish work!
Since then I have been doing some glass painting. A few months ago I started painting empty jam jars to make candle holders out of them. It's a cheap hobby really as I "borrowed" my mother's glass paints and the jars naturally don't cost anything because I bought them for the olives or the peanut butter that used to be in them. I decided to paint some interesting ones for my mother's Christmas present as I like to give her something homemade every year but it wasn't going very well because the black liner started leaking everywhere. I bought some new liner and it's working wonderfully. I need to finish painting the jars tonight so they can dry by tomorrow because...
Tomorrow evening I am heading back to my mother's house as on Saturday we are having an early family Christmas because I will be in Thailand for the real thing. So I really should be packing and wrapping instead of surfing and typing! I've just had dinner while watching an episode from the final season of The West Wing. It occurred to me that I started watching the show back in January, and I don't think I'll be able to reach the end before we go away. It's a great show an' all, but when will it end?? I want CJ Cregg to live happily ever after with Danny Concannon.
And before I finish - is anyone else watching Modern Family on Sky One? It's made by the producers of Frasier and is really funny. We've just recorded the most recent episode on our Sky box so I'm going to watch that and paint some flowers on glass jars.
