'Go west - life is peaceful there...'

I had a really good night on Friday night. Lots of people came together for The Guy's birthday, and we all got dressed up, and it was fun.

We met in Squirrels, our hall bar, and decided to go to Big Hands. We all trundled on the bus and got off just outside Rusholme, only to find Big Hands rather full for a little bar, especially as there were so many of us, so we got back on the bus (involving Bennett running extremely quickly to stop it leaving again) and went into town for 42nd Street. It was after eleven so there was a big queue, but we waited it out and eventually all got in. Once there The Guy got steadily more and more drunk as people kept buying him birthday drinks, and got funnier and funnier. He is also much more affectionate when drunk - normally he doesn't like public displays of affection - so I was happy. I got a little tipsy but as I was organising the evening I didn't want to get too drunk.

As soon as I began to wonder if The Guy would be able to stand up much longer we decided it was time to leave, so we headed back on the bus. We got off in Rusholme and found a curry house still open (it was nearly 3am) and thirteen of us sat down and ordered lots of food. It was all really lovely, and it didn't feel at all odd to be ordering at such a late hour. Feeling truly stuffed we got back on the bus home again (we could have just walked, but it was pouring down with rain) and returned to our various flats in Oak House. I was completely soaked but had had a great night, so didn't mind too much. I then slept til after midday, hee.

Yesterday was a bit of a write-off because of being out so late the night before. Had a nap in the afternoon and then couldn't sleep last night. As predicted, I was exhausted in work, but oh well. I handed in my four weeks' notice, but as I back-dated it to last week I only have three weeks left in work now. Hurrah! I'm not sure when my mother will be able to take me home as I'm being kicked out of my halls on my last day in work, but we'll work it out somehow.

I've been thinking quite a lot about the summer. I'll be home from the middle of June and have no real plans until the beginning of September when I'm going to Berlin with my mother. I need to get a job, as close to full time as possible, and I'm considering learning to drive (but only because it's a useful skill, not because I really want to - the idea scares me) but that's it so far. Not much for over two months. This seems a shame - I'm young, mostly unattached, and have a small but independent sum of money at my disposal. I'd really like to do something with my summer. Go somewhere, see things. I know university should supply that sort of experience, and I've already been to Amsterdam this year, but I'd like to do more while I have the option. The problem is, what? And with whom? There's no one that I really know well enough to suggest spending time with alone, abroad, and I'm too scared to go alone. But I want to do something. I idly perused EasyJet.com this evening, and noticed that they have return flights to Marseilles for £40. I've not got a burning idea to go to Marseilles particularly, but it's a thought. Anyone else have any ideas? Anyone else feeling like throwing in their lot with me and doing some travelling for a short while? I'm open to suggestions.
