So I'm holding my own weight-wise, but at least I'm getting back on track.  I had a few setbacks, mostly because of migraines and one really weird episode of nausea.  I'm fine now, so I'm hoping to get back to my regular exercise routine.  Or, more accurately, I'm hoping to reestablish a regular exercise routine.  I sort of overdid it last week as I saw the week coming to a close and realized I hadn't come anywhere close to my calorie-burning goal.  Admittedly, it's impossible to exercise when your head feels like it's going to explode (not to mention your stomach), but I need to get exercise entrenched in my routine.  (I need to get regular piano practice into my routine as well, but that's a different story.)  The good news is that we've unearthed the Xbox and we've both been using it.  I got 2 new games for my birthday: Kinect Sports Season 2 and Rabbids: Alive and Kicking.

Kinect Sports Season 2 is much like the first Kinect Sports game but presents a whole new pantheon of sports - American Football, Skiing, Golf, Tennis, Baseball, and Darts.  I think Darts is my least favorite since [a] I don't seem to be able to understand the scoring, so I can't come up with a decent playing strategy, [b] it doesn't raise my heart rate as much and is therefore not an effective means of exercise, and [c] I appear to completely suck at virtual darts.  I'm actually not too bad at hitting a real dartboard, but I can't seem to make the video game work.  This isn't the first time I've failed at Xbox dart games; we have at least 2 other versions of darts for Kinect and I suck at all of them.  I like all the other games, though, and it's pretty good exercise since each game seems to effectively isolate different muscle groups.  As long as you vary your activities, you get a well rounded workout.

Rabbids: Alive and Kicking is silly, manic fun.  If you like Fruit Ninja, then this game is right up your alley.  It's irreverent and absurd, extremely creative and certainly gets you moving.  The only activity I really don't like is the one that involves headbanging (clearly this game was designed for younger necks).  I have found that if I tuck my head, support my neck with my hands, and use my stomach muscles to do all the movement, I can avoid a sore neck and even get a good abs workout out of it - kind of like doing standing sit-ups - but frankly, I'd prefer to skip that particular activity altogether.  All of the other activities are oodles of fun!  There's a lot of cartoon violence and gross juvenile humor (one activity makes you fling snot balls, another activity makes you travel through the rabbid's intestines after he "sits" on you), but personally I think you'd have to be the type who's rather easily offended to not find most of this game highly amusing.  One thing is for certain: it will wear you out.  The game is designed to excite you into a frenzy so that you don't realize how much energy you're expending until you stop playing.  I was sore for 2 days after my first round with the game, but I still wanted to play again.

So there are my reviews and hopefully I will be able to report even more progress next week.
